Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A. Partners with AOS to Solve Business Continuity Needs
Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) applies thoughtful design to structures
and constructs frameworks of ideas that work. PEC believes that the “best
construction projects prove themselves over time, usually in the absence of
notice. Engineering does its job while the people it serves are busy doing
something else.”
PEC strives for professional satisfaction and personal reward in the long-term
performance of engineering designs. PEC designs residential developments,
airports, water and wastewater treatment plants, sewers, and superhighways.
They work with architects in the design of hospitals, shopping centers, retail
businesses, and sophisticated manufacturing environments.
PEC’s core network switch was experiencing occasional failures, which was
affecting business production. They also planned to upgrade their infrastructure
to support gigabit Ethernet and power over Ethernet.
The solution AOS provided was stacked Cisco 3750s to replace the core switch.
This solution provides redundancy in the core and failover should one of the two
switches malfunction. Cisco 3560s were placed on the 2nd floor to provide
gigabit Ethernet and power over Ethernet.
"It was easy to work with the AOS salesperson and engineers. They followed
through on their promises and schedule." Earl Huskamp, Computer Division
Manager said. He found that, “questions were answered quickly and any
problems were addressed immediately. They kept me informed throughout the
process.”
Dena Dellere, Account Manager at AOS for PEC, added that the design
engineer, Shawn Hoenshall, worked with Earl to provide a long-term upgrade
path not just for his current switch issue, but also identified other equipment near
the end of serviceable support. The network design Shawn provided PEC furnishes
upgrade paths for not only their Wichita location, but for Topeka, Lawrence, and
Allied Laboratories locations.
Earl’s long-term goals are to upgrade PEC’s telephone system and add other
applications like wireless, but he knew his network would not support it in its
current configuration. We went to solve one issue and were able to help develop
a long-term plan for PEC’s future growth. We just did not give PEC a quick fix for
their current situation.
“It is great that AOS has an engineer in our area that is prompt and follows the
project from start to finish,” Earl added. “I have worked with other vendors in
Wichita and have found that they bring in engineers from out of town to perform
the work and leave. It was hard to resolve any installation issues and problems
that occurred once the engineer had gone.”
The solution AOS provided has given Earl peace of mind. PEC has not
experienced any failures and this solution gives PEC the capability to continue to
operate business should there be a failure in the core of the network. |
